The MBA is the degree that really made online learning what it is today. The reason for this is that the MBA is intended for people with work experience. Most MBA programs require that applicants have several years of work experience before they are accepted into the program. The problem is that by the time most people have the required work experience they have families and other responsibilities that make returning to school full time difficult if not impossible. An online MBA is really no different from a regular MBA program in terms of what you learn, however there are some differences in the way that you learn. Normally an online degree program requires a great deal of independent learning and involves very little interaction with the teacher and your fellow classmates. Most online MBA programs don't work this way, they usually require regular online meetings with your fellow students and with your professor. Group projects are also normally required as part of an MBA program and many schools will actually require a visit to the campus for some in person projects.
All of this interaction is helpful with the learning process but it does take away a lot of the benefits of an online degree. Although you can study from anywhere you can't choose the time at which you will study. You will need to be available for regular meetings and group projects, this can be a real nightmare if you live in a time zone that is different from most of the other students. The require to visit campus can also be a problem since it will likely limit you to schools that are close to your home, although it is possible to find schools that don't have this requirement.
Despite the fact that an online MBA isn't usually as convenient as other online degrees there are still good reasons to consider pursuing one. The biggest is that you can still work while pursuing the degree. Although you will be required to be available at certain times it is nowhere near as stringent a requirement as a attendance at a regular school would be. There is also the cost factor, again online MBA's tend to be more expensive than other online degrees but they are usually cheaper than a degree from a traditional university would be.
An MBA is no longer an option that is only required by people heading for senior management, it is a requirement for almost anybody who has designs on a career in management. An online MBA makes getting one so easy that virtually everybody you will be competing for promotion with will have one. That makes it a requirement to get one for career enhancement.
