Generally speaking most people who find themselves in the marketing career field started out pursuing a different path. For some they always intended to become marketers and had to get their foot in the door in a different while for others they just kind of ended up there after starting out in a different career. However they got there most people who find themselves working as marketers don't actually have any training in the field. Usually they find it necessary to go back and complete a marketing degree after they have already started working. For these people an online marketing degree is the ideal solution.
Most people who have been in the workforce for a while find that it is difficult to go back to school. It may be that they have a family to support and can't afford to be a student or they may have just gotten accustomed to living on a full time salary. Being a starving student is for young people not grown adults. More and more people are finding that they do need to go back to school and increase their education, there has been a trend toward credential escalation that has made this necessary. This trend has in large part been caused by online learning.
Online degrees first gained popularity as a way for people who were working to get the education they needed to move into a better position. However since it was possible to get an online degree without having to quit your job many ambitious employees started getting advanced degrees whether they need them or not in the hopes of getting promoted. This created a situation in which everybody had the degree that was required for promotion to the next level so in order to stand out employees started pursuing even higher degrees. The result is that we have fields like marketing in which there are so many people competing for promotion into the field that even entry level jobs require a graduate degree. This has made online marketing degrees very popular, if you want to be a marketer you are going to have to get one.
While a lot of people think this situation is ridiculous, it is unlikely to change anytime soon. Employers can demand these qualifications because so many people have them. There is little you can do to fight it so you are going to have to play the game. If you want to work in a field like marketing or brand development you are going to have to get an online marketing degree, you will probably need to continue on and get an advanced degree as well. You will likely find that you are learning things that aren't necessary to do the job but that is just the way the system works.
