This is great for people who need to upgrade academically but also have a family to support.
The second big advantage of an online degree is speed, if you are motivated you can earn a degree in less time than it would take through a traditional university. At a traditional university you pretty much have to work at the schools pace, it isn't really possible to speed up the process. Most online universities offer self paced courses so that you can work as fast or as slowly as you desire. That means that if you want to compress a four year degree into three years that is very possible. On the other hand if you find that you other commitments limit the amount of time you have to study you can work at a slower pace if need be. This flexibility is one of the great advantages of learning online.
In most cases an online education will cost less than a traditional university. If for no other reason than that you don't have to spend four years with no income. The fact that you can work full time while attending school means that you don't have to take out student loans which means that you won't be paying for school years after you graduate. Online courses also tend to have cheaper tuition rates than traditional universities, although this can vary dramatically. That being said if money is an issue you can usually find an online course that is cheaper than a regular one.
